There are a ton of benefits to having an app marketing email list. So in this post, we will give you five ways that you can steadily grow your list and provide some case studies, to give you some ideas.
GET AN APP MARKETING EMAIL LIST SERVICE
Before we get into any specific list-building strategies, let’s take a quick look at some services that you can use to build your list. You may be tempted to create your own solution or just BCC everyone on your Gmail contact list.
Trust me, as someone who had to deal with blacklisting issues in the past, it is much better to use one of these services. They will save you a ton of headaches and money.
If you are just starting out, then you can start with services like Aweber, Mailchimp or Constant Contact. They are affordable and will give you everything you need to get started.
If you are generating more income and need advanced segmentation and automation features, then you can step up to services like Infusionsoft, Drip or Ontraport. They provide a more complete solution than just an email list, but are considerably more expensive.
Once you have signed up for the email marketing service of your choice, now it’s time to build that list!
1. WEBSITE OPT-INS
You have an app marketing website, right? If you don’t, then no problem.

Once you have your website up, it is time to collect some email addresses. Here are a few strategies that you can use on your website, to build your list.
Creating landing pages that have a specific purpose are a great way to test marketing messages and collect email addresses. Offer something useful, in exchange for an email address. If you are on a budget, you can use free landing pages or a theme like Optimize Press, which has a one-time fee.
But if you have a little more money to spend, it is better to get a paid service. A few services you can use include Unbounce and LeadPages. You can also use these landing pages for your 404 page, welcome gate and much more.
End of Blog Posts
The end of a blog post is one of the best places to ask for their email address. If someone reading your blog has read all the way to the end, then they are probably pretty interested in what you have to say.
So continue the conversation and ask them to opt-in to your email list. Offer a monthly newsletter, a PDF, or something else of value.

The sidebar of your website is probably going to be the lowest converting call-to-action on your site, but there are a few things that you can do to boost your conversion.
First, when someone clicks on your banners, you can use a popup that takes over the whole screen. This will make it more likely that people will opt-in, if they click on your sidebar button.
Second, you can make one or more of your sidebar banners scroll with screen. To see an example, look at our last banner to the right.
One plugin you can use with WordPress is the Q2W3 plugin. It will turn any of your sidebar widgets into scrolling elements.
Finally, you should continually test button graphics to find out what works best. A plugin like Adrotate Pro can be used to automatically rotate banners and the plugin will show you which one does best.
Many people are afraid to add popups to their site because they think that popups will make their readers mad. Some will get mad, but you have to get over it.

2. COLLECT EMAILS WITH SURVEYS
If you go to industry conferences or you organize meetups, you may be used to collecting business cards and adding them to your email list manually. Not only is that a good way to make your new contacts mad, it is also a good way to increase spam complaints and lower your email delivery rate.
But how can you effectively collect email addresses at these events, especially when you don’t always have an internet connection available?
Apps like iCapture will integrate with your email list service or CRM and create surveys and email list opt-in boxes that will help you grow your list. It will allow you or your team to collect emails when you are at the event, then upload them later, when you get to an internet connection. This app will even sync with Salesforce.

4. COLLECT EMAILS INSIDE APP
You cannot make entering an email address a requirement to use your app. So you have to find other ways to collect email addresses in your app.
There might be some plugins that you can buy, add a couple lines of code to your app and you have an email opt-in box (couldn’t find any good ones though). But generally, building an email opt-in screen in your app isn’t that difficult.
So figure out how to implement it and the best way to get people to join your email list.
5. FACEBOOK APPS
You can also add an email opt-in on your Facebook page. Facebook apps like the LeadPages app allow you to use their landing pages as Facebook forms to collect email addresses.
